Liz Vigar - Counsellor

About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integrative Counsellor working with individual adults (18+).  I have worked with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, disordered eating, self-harm, bereavement, relationship difficulties, identity, sexuality, low self-esteem, abuse, traumatic and early life experiences.

I offer a confidential and non-judgmental space for you to reflect on your life and the events that have shaped you and made you the person you are today.  We would work together to discover the less conscious aspects of your thoughts, feelings and emotions, so that you can come to understand yourself more fully.  This can develop your capacity to understand yourself better and make choices to bring about positive change.

Whilst I won’t offer direct advice or judge, I will help you to gain greater understanding and help make sense of what is happening.

I am a registered and accredited member of the BACP and hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

It may be a specific problem that has brought you to counselling or it may be a general feeling of being low or of something not being quite right.  Either way, we can think together about what is best for you at this time.

Practice description

My counselling room is in Woodley, Reading.  It is close to bus routes and has off-road parking.  It is a quiet, self-contained space in the garden.

If you would like to find out more about counselling and whether it is for you at this point, the first thing to do is to arrange an assessment session, preferably face to face, but remotely if necessary.

Your first session

Sessions are usually 50 minutes long but, if you go ahead and book an assessment session, this may take up to an hour.  The first session is an opportunity for you to ask questions and get a feel for how you might make use of therapy.

We will explore together your hopes and expectations and look at some of the things you would like to work on.  We can think about how we might work together and what is most suitable for you going forward.  It may be that a few sessions would be helpful, or you may want a longer term, open-ended agreement and we can discuss what feels right for you in this session.

If we proceed with ongoing sessions, these would usually take place weekly.  Occasionally more frequent sessions may be agreed.
